This triptych tells the story of the assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa, on the night of November 25th, 1960. The dictator, Trujillo, had targeted them for their clandestine activities against his repressive regime. The United Nations dedicated the date of their deaths as the International Day to End Violence against women in 1999. The “goat” reference of the title is a mocking reference to Trujillo, taken from a song celebrating his killing.

The “goat” of the title is a mocking reference to the dictator Trujillo, taken from a song celebrating his killing. The “re-dedication” refers to the obelisk in the background, which Trujillo originally erected in 1937 in his own honor, celebrating the first anniversary of his changing the name of the capital from Santo Domingo to Ciudad Trujillo (Trujillo City). The obelisk was re-dedicated, in 1997, to the three Mirabal sisters whom Trujillo had ordered assassinated in 1960.
